Frequently asked questions

ANSWERS FOR THE MOST COMMON DATABASE MANAGED SERVICES QUESTIONS

Do your database managed services include proactive monitoring?

Yes! We use an advanced database monitoring system called Pulse. Our team developed Pulse from the ground up, as we found that the regular 3rd party options were insufficient for our customers’ needs.

Proactive monitoring is typically available at an additional cost with most managed service providers. Our customers benefit from the enhanced performance provided by Pulse as standard.

Are managed services available 24x7x365?

Absolutely. The reality is that most businesses don’t simply run from 9-5, so neither do we.

We’re able to accommodate 24x7x365 database managed service & support, but if you require a more flexible arrangement then we can also offer out of hours, sickness, and holiday cover.

Do I need 24x7x365 managed service coverage?

This will depend on your business’s specific needs. A simple way of answering this is by posing another question: ‘Would out of hours performance issues threaten business continuity?’

If so, 24x7x365 coverage is recommended.

What are the cost benefits of choosing a managed service?

Hiring a full staff of internal DBAs – especially on an out of hours basis – is enormously costly. The more experienced the DBA, the higher the wages required.

The average salary of a DBA is £36,626, whilst a more experienced DBA may set you back around £80,000 per annum. And for guaranteed round-the-clock cover, you will require at least three DBAs. Ideally more.

The cost of a managed service, which delivers access to an entire team of experts, is far more competitive than this.

You can read more in our Reasons to Outsource your DBA Function guide.

Which database services does Xynomix support?

We support Oracle database, Microsoft SQL Server, and Linux/Unix.

Our cloud service offerings include AWS, Oracle Cloud, Azure, and Google Cloud.

Can your database managed service support my internal team?

Of course – and many of our customers opt for this co-managed approach.

We work to establish strong relationships with our customers’ DBAs, collaborating to ensure that their organisation benefits from the best possible coverage.

It doesn’t need to be a case of internal DBA support versus an outsourced managed service – a combination of both is a compelling option.
